Friends,
If your child attends a private school in the Elmbrook community and rides a district bus or know someone this impacts, You will want to pay attention to what’s happening at the Elmbrook school board.
At a recent work session on middle school start times, several board members favored an option that would force private school children who ride the bus to be dropped off at school around 7:10 AM and then picked up early around 2:30 PM. In most cases, that is arriving over an hour early to school and having to leave school early to catch the bus.
While technically within the bounds of Wisconsin state statute, that doesn’t make it right. Let me be direct: some members of this board operate as though families who choose private education are less important — that because you don’t send your children to Elmbrook public schools, you somehow deserve fewer public benefits. (Ask me about Security Resource Officers)
I see it differently.
Private school families in our community pay the same property taxes as every other resident. Your tax dollars fund the Elmbrook School District budget — yet you consume virtually none of those educational dollars for your own children’s schooling. District-provided busing is one of the smallest benefits your family receives in return for that investment, and it should be delivered in a way that is reasonable and workable for your family — not treated as an afterthought.
Every child in this community matters. Public school, private school — they are all children that deserve to be treated with the same level of care and consideration. If you agree that the children of this community should be treated in the same regard, I’m asking for your support.
Help re-elect me and elect Kevin Klandrud and Bob Burlage to the Elmbrook School Board. Together, we will fight for all the children and families in our community — not just some of them.
